Why Thanksgiving moves every year
Thanksgiving in the United States is not tied to a calendar date. Since 1941 it has been fixed by law as the fourth Thursday of November. Because November 1 can fall on any day of the week, the fourth Thursday can land anywhere from November 22 to November 28.
That is why a plain “days until November 26” countdown would be wrong most years. This page works out the fourth Thursday for the current year, counts down to it, and switches to next year’s date the day after.
