How to calculate the days between two dates
Enter a start date in the From field and an end date in the To field. The result appears straight away. The big number is the total in calendar days, and the tiles below break it into weeks, months, years and business days.
It does not matter which date comes first. If the To date is earlier than the From date, the calculator still shows the gap, and the line under the number tells you which way the dates run. To start fresh, press Reset.
By hand, the method is simple but fiddly: count the days left in the first month, add the full months in between using their real lengths, then add the days in the last month. One slip on a 30- versus 31-day month and you are off by one, which is why most people use a calculator.

Inclusive or exclusive: which count do you need?
The default is exclusive counting. It measures the distance between two dates, the same way a spreadsheet does when you subtract one date from another. Monday to Friday of the same week is 4 days.
Inclusive counting adds the end date. Use it when both the first and last day matter: a hotel stay counted in days rather than nights, an event that runs Monday to Friday (5 days), or a contract that says “from and including”. Tick “Include end date” and the total goes up by exactly one.
If a legal or medical deadline depends on the answer, check how the document defines the count. Some rules start counting the day after an event, others include it.
Days between dates for work and life
- Deadlines: see how many calendar and business days you have between today and a due date.
- Notice periods: check whether 30, 60 or 90 days have really passed between two letters.
- Travel: count the days of a trip, or between booking and departure.
- Relationships and milestones: measure the time between two big moments, like a first date and a wedding.
Counting from a date to today is a special case. For that, the day since calculator on the homepage already sets the end date to today for you. To jump forward by a fixed number of days instead, try days from today.

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Enter both dates in the calculator above. It subtracts the earlier date from the later one and shows the total in days, plus weeks, months, years and business days.
Does the count include the start and end date?
By default it counts the days between the dates, so the start date is not counted. Tick “Include end date” to count both, which adds one day.
How many days are there between two dates in different years?
The calculator handles any years. It counts every day in between, including February 29 in leap years, so January 1, 2024 to January 1, 2025 is 366 days.
How do I count days between dates in Excel?
Subtract the cells, for example =B1-A1, and format the result as a number. =DATEDIF(A1,B1,”D”) gives the same answer. Add 1 if you want to include both dates.
Can I count only weekdays between two dates?
Yes. The business days tile shows Monday to Friday only. For more options, use the business days calculator.
How many weeks are between two dates?
Divide the days by 7. The weeks tile shows full weeks plus any leftover days, for example “17 + 1” for 120 days.
