How business days are counted
A business day is any Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. We count the working days after the start date, up to and including the end date. So from Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9, 2026 there are 4 business days, or 5 if you include the start.
The same rule works for adding days. Ten business days from Monday, October 19, 2026 is Monday, November 2, 2026: two full working weeks later.
Weekends at either end are the usual source of confusion. If you start on a Saturday, the first business day counted is Monday. If your end date is a Sunday, the count stops at the Friday before. That is why a Saturday-to-Sunday range shows 0 business days even though a calendar day has passed.

What about public holidays?
Holidays are not removed automatically, because they depend on your country, state and employer. A bank in New York, a school in London and a factory in Karachi all close on different days. After you get the result, subtract any holidays that fall in your range.
For example, if your range covers US Thanksgiving and the Friday after it, and your office closes both days, take 2 off the business-day total. Our Thanksgiving countdown shows this year’s date.
The same goes for company shutdowns. Many offices close between Christmas and New Year, so a range across late December can lose four or five working days that the calculator still counts. When a date really matters, list the closed days next to your result and subtract them one by one. It takes a minute and avoids the most common business-day mistake.
When to use a business days calculator
- Shipping: “3–5 business days” means weekdays only, so an order placed on a Friday arrives somewhere between the following Wednesday and Friday.
- Banking: transfers and cheque clearing usually run on business days.
- Contracts and notice periods: check whether the clause says calendar days or business days. Over a month the difference is about 8 or 9 days.
- Project plans: a 20-business-day sprint is four calendar weeks.

How do I calculate business days between two dates?
Enter both dates in the calculator above. It counts Monday to Friday after the start date, up to and including the end date, and shows the calendar days for comparison.
Does 2 business days include today?
Usually not. “2 business days” normally means two working days after today, so from Monday it is Wednesday. Check the wording of your contract or shipping terms.
What is 10 business days from today?
Use the add tool on this page: enter today’s date and 10. It skips weekends and shows the date. From a Monday, 10 business days lands on the Monday two weeks later.
Are public holidays included?
No. Holidays differ by country and employer, so subtract any that fall in your date range.
How many business days are in a year?
Between 260 and 262, depending on which weekday the year starts on and whether it is a leap year, before removing public holidays. 2026 has 261.
How long is 30 business days?
About six calendar weeks, since each week has five business days. The add tool gives the exact date.
